1851 Painting small

After the 1851 Jubilee Panter celebration of John Leach Panter and Sarah Downes’ 50th wedding anniversary held on October 14th 1851 at North End Lodge, Fulham, a painting was commissioned from Mary Mannin R.A.

This picture is painted in water-colour, and measures 37 inches by 24 inches (excluding the frame).
Mrs. Mary Mannin (1800-1864), was formerly Miss Mary A. Millington. She was married in 1832, and died in Brighton in 1864. Mrs. Mannin was a member of the Royal Academy from 1829-1857.
The artist is thought to have been a pupil of Sir William Ross, whose style she copied. She was known as a clever miniaturist. She excelled at painting children, modeling the face with long red strokes on the nose and cheeks, and painting the hair in a mass.
