About this website

This website and the associated Panter family tree on Ancestry.co.uk is for all families of the descendants of John Leach Panter and Sarah Downes who held the original Panter family party in Fulham, London in 1851 to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The event and their family were recorded in the painting by Mary Mannin R.A. seen below.  JLP’s descendants organised two family parties on the centenary in 1951, in the UK and in Australia, and have organised regular UK family parties since then – in 1951, 1981, 1991, 2001 and 2011.
Other families linked to the Panters are Welander, Downes, Wrake, McCausland, Shaw, Bellhouse, Wrench, and many more.
